Vehicle Description Today a classic car, but this 1968 Mustang started out as the family car.
On one particular trip, Sherrie and Mel took a ski trip to Jackson Hole.
On the return drive home, they were winding their way on the mountain road, when they heard a low rumble coming from somewhere nearby.
Looking in the rear view mirror, Mel saw a tumultuous mountainside of snow hurdling toward them.
Luckily, the Mustang was able to outrun the danger and carry them safely home.
All three kids drove the Mustang throughout their high school years.
At the local high school, the Mustang gas cap seemed to be a very popular item.
It kept getting stolen.
Finally, Mel put a generic one on the car to deter would be thieves.
The final driver, Mel's daughter put her two cents in about the car with this sticker, 'If this was a horse I'd have to shoot her.
' This car served the family very well.
In 1986 the engine was rebuilt.
The car has been kept in storage since 1986.
Mel began restoring the rest of the car in 2008.
The interior was reupholstered and new carpet throughout, to match the original color.
As the original owner, Mel still has all the paperwork and loan application from the initial purchase.
The wheels, hubcaps, and chrome bumpers are the original parts.
The ever-popular gas cap was purchased through Dallas Mustang.
Throughout the restoration only Ford approved parts were used.
The only modifications were to add an extra reserve bottle for the radiator and vacuum booster for the brakes.
